Introduction
This article provides examples of the configuration for common types of discounts, deals and promotions which can be built using using the Cinchio Deals builder. This article is for illustrative purposes only; for the full steps on building a new Deal, Click Here.
IMPORTANT: Before creating a deal, check that you have the following:
- A "Deal Reporting Product". A product representing the deal that discounted items report against within the transaction. This is a standard Back Office Product with the Deal Reporting Product checkbox enabled in the Additional Options section.
- Product families (if required). A family of products used to specify basket conditions for the deal to activate, or used to specify products that should be excluded from transaction-level discounts. These are managed within the Product Families section.
Common Deals Configuration
Transaction Discount (Basic Unconditional Discount)
Summary
This example covers a basic unconditional transaction discount, such as a 10% Discount activated by the customer entering a promo code.
Deal Details
When creating the deal:
- Enter a Deal Name for the the deal as it should be known in the Back Office (customers don't see this) and link to a Deal Type. Then select the Deal Reporting Product for the deal to report against in transactions.
- The Discount Level should be "Entire Transaction".
- Select when the deal is Available From and To. You can apply additional availability rules later.
Once created there are two further options:
- Discounted Items Contribute To Condition: This is not applicable for this type of deal, where there are no Deal Conditions.
- Allow Stacking: Enable this if items discounted by this deal can be further discounted by another transaction-level deal that gets applied later. (Typically disabled for this type of deal.)
Deal Conditions
There are no Deal Conditions.
Deal Discounts
There is one Deal Discount.
Enter the Menu Discount Name as the deal should be shown to customers.
Select the Discount Type as "Percentage" or "Amount", along with the Value of that percentage or amount to be discounted. The Tax Option will populate automatically based on your location.
If discount should be capped, enter the Discount Limit to specify the maximum value of discount allowed.
If products are excluded from the discount calculation, select to Exclude Products and select the product family that contains the products that should be excluded.
Combo Deal (Buy X, Y & Z Items for a Fixed Price)
Summary
This example covers a combo deal discount scenario where a fixed price is applied when purchasing a combination of items. For example:
- In an F&B scenario, buy a Burger, Fries and Drink for 9.50.
- In a Retail scenario, buy a Notebook, Pencil and Eraser for 12.00.
Deal Details
When creating the deal:
- Enter a Deal Name for the the deal as it should be known in the Back Office (customers don't see this) and link to a Deal Type. Then select the Deal Reporting Product for the deal to report against in transactions.
- The Discount Level should be "Specific Items" as the deal only applies to those in the combo.
- Select when the deal is Available From and To. You can apply additional availability rules later.
Once created there are two further options:
- Iteration Limit: Specify the number of times that this deal can be activated within a customers basket. If there is no limit, leave this blank.
- Allow Stacking: Enable this if items discounted by this deal can be further discounted by a transaction-level deal that gets applied later.
Deal Conditions
There should be a Deal Condition representing each element of the combination required.
In this case, there must be 1 Burger, 1 Side and 1 Drink for the fixed price to apply.
Each Deal Condition should have a Deal Condition Name for Back Office identification purposes.
Use Item Selection Method to select items for this condition based on "Product Family" or "Individual Product", and then select that family or product in the Item Selection list.
Select your Condition Metric - which is typically "Quantity" in a combo deal scenario - and then enter your Minimum and Maximum values as the same value per the condition requirement.
Deal Discounts
There is one Deal Discount.
Enter the Menu Discount Name as the deal should be shown to customers.
Select the Discount Type as "Fixed Amount", along with the Value of that fixed price should be when the conditions are met. The Tax Option will populate automatically based on your location.
Against Discounted items select "All Condition Items" to proportionally allocate the fixed price across your combination of items.
The Applies To option is typically set as "First Item Entered" in combo deal scenarios, to apply the deal to the items in the order that the customer added them into the basket.
For combo deal scenarios, the Discount Value Limit should be left blank.
Multibuy Deal (Buy Quantity of X for a Fixed Price)
Summary
This example covers a multibuy deal discount scenario where a fixed price is applied when purchasing specific quantity of the same group of items. For example:
- In an F&B scenario, buy three bottles of beer for 7.50.
- In a Retail scenario, buy four pencils for 4.95.
Deal Details
When creating the deal:
- Enter a Deal Name for the the deal as it should be known in the Back Office (customers don't see this) and link to a Deal Type. Then select the Deal Reporting Product for the deal to report against in transactions.
- The Discount Level should be "Specific Items" as the deal only applies to those in the combo.
- Select when the deal is Available From and To. You can apply additional availability rules later.

Select your Condition Metric - which is typically "Quantity" in a multibuy deal scenario - and then enter your Minimum and Maximum values as the same value per the condition requirement.
Deal Discounts
There is one Deal Discount.
Enter the Menu Discount Name as the deal should be shown to customers.
Select the Discount Type as "Fixed Amount", along with the Value of that fixed price should be when the condition is met. The Tax Option will populate automatically based on your location.

BOGOF Deal (Buy X and get Y for Free)
Summary
This example covers a BOGOF deal discount scenario where an item is free when purchased alongside another product sold at full price. For example:
- In an F&B scenario, buy one pastry get another free.
- In a Retail scenario, buy one stuffed animal get another free.
Deal Details
When creating the deal:
- Enter a Deal Name for the the deal as it should be known in the Back Office (customers don't see this) and link to a Deal Type. Then select the Deal Reporting Product for the deal to report against in transactions.
- The Discount Level should be "Specific Items" as the deal only applies to those in the combo.
- Select when the deal is Available From and To. You can apply additional availability rules later.
Once created there are two further options:
- Iteration Limit: Specify the number of times that this deal can be activated within a customers basket. If there is no limit, leave this blank.
- Allow Stacking: Enable this if items discounted by this deal can be further discounted by a transaction-level deal that gets applied later.
Deal Conditions
There should be two Deal Conditions in the deal: one representing the "Buy One" element and another representing the "Get One Free" element.
This allows you to target the "Get One Free" element when applying the Deal Discount in the next step.
Each Deal Condition should have a Deal Condition Name for Back Office identification purposes.
Use Item Selection Method to select items for this condition based on "Product Family" or "Individual Product", and then select that family or product in the Item Selection list.
Select your Condition Metric - which is typically "Quantity" in a combo deal scenario - and then enter your Minimum and Maximum values as the same value per the condition requirement.
Deal Discounts
There is one Deal Discount.
Enter the Menu Discount Name as the deal should be shown to customers.
Select the Discount Type as either:
- "Fixed Price", with a Value of 0.00 representing the new free price.
- "Percentage", with a Value of 100 to reduce the original price by 100%
The Tax Option will populate automatically based on your location.
Against Discounted items select the condition that represents the free item selection. This is ensures that the discount is only applied to the one item, and the other item remains at full price.
The Applies To option is typically set as either "Most Expensive" or "Least Expensive" in BOGOF deal scenarios, to apply the deal to the least/most expensive applicable item in the basket per your deal terms.
For BOGOF deal scenarios, the Discount Value Limit should be left blank.
Promotional Price (Buy X for a Fixed Price)
Summary
This example covers a promotional price deal discount scenario where a product (or select products) are sold at a fixed price as part of a promotion. For example:
- In an F&B scenario, all cocktails sold at 6.95 during happy hour.
- In a Retail scenario, promotion on selected T-shirts sold for 20.00.
Deal Details
When creating the deal:
- Enter a Deal Name for the the deal as it should be known in the Back Office (customers don't see this) and link to a Deal Type. Then select the Deal Reporting Product for the deal to report against in transactions.
- The Discount Level should be "Specific Items" as the deal only applies to those in the combo.

Select the Discount Type as "Fixed Amount", along with the Value of that fixed price should be when the condition is met. The Tax Option will populate automatically based on your location.
Against Discounted items select "All Condition Items" to allocate the fixed price against the item that meets the condition.
The Applies To option is typically not required in promotional price deal scenarios as all applicable products are discounted, unless an Iteration Limit is applied. If an iteration limit is applied, typically either "Most Expensive" or "Least Expensive" would be used to apply the deal to the least/most expensive applicable item in the basket per your deal terms.
For promotional price deal scenarios, the Discount Value Limit should be left blank.
Conditional Transaction Discount (Transaction Discount when exceeding a Minimum Basket Spend)
Summary
This example covers a conditional transaction discount scenario where a transaction discount is applied when a minimum spend or minimum purchase quantity threshold has been met. For example:
- In an F&B scenario, 10% off your bill when spending over 100.00.
- In a Retail scenario, 5% off your basket when purchasing 12 or more eligible items.
Deal Details
When creating the deal:
- Enter a Deal Name for the the deal as it should be known in the Back Office (customers don't see this) and link to a Deal Type. Then select the Deal Reporting Product for the deal to report against in transactions.
- The Discount Level should be "Entire Transaction".
- Select when the deal is Available From and To. You can apply additional availability rules later.
Once created there are two further options:
- Discounted Items Contribute To Condition: Enable this if sales of items already discounted by item-level deals contributes towards the sale condition of this transaction-level discount. For example, if the Combo Deal scenario covered previously in this article has been applied, the fixed price sale value of that combo still contributes towards a minimum spend requirement of 100.00 for this transaction discount to be applicable.
- Allow Stacking: Enable this if items discounted by this deal can be further discounted by another transaction-level deal that gets applied later.
Deal Conditions
There is typically a single Deal Condition representing the minimum basket requirements.
The Deal Condition should have a Deal Condition Name for Back Office identification purposes.
Use Item Selection Method to select items for this condition based on "Product Family" or "Individual Product", and then select that family or product in the Item Selection list.
Select your Condition Metric to specify a minimum "Amount" spend, or minimum "Quantity" sold requirement. Then enter your Minimum requirement value.
For conditional transaction-level discounts, the Maximum value can typically be left blank as the discount is trigged on a minimum spend requirement.
Deal Discounts
There is one Deal Discount.
Enter the Menu Discount Name as the deal should be shown to customers.
Select the Discount Type as "Percentage" or "Amount", along with the Value of that percentage or amount to be discounted. The Tax Option will populate automatically based on your location.

- In an F&B scenario, buy 4 beers and receive a snack sharer plate.
- In a Retail scenario, spend 20.00 on stationery and receive a free pencil.

- Enter a Deal Name for the the deal as it should be known in the Back Office (customers don't see this) and link to a Deal Type. Then select the Deal Reporting Product for the deal to report against in transactions.
- The Discount Level should be "Specific Items" as the deal only applies to those in the combo.

Deal Conditions
There should be two Deal Conditions in the deal: one representing the "Spend X on Y" element and another representing the "Promo Product" element.
This allows you to target the "Promo Product" element when applying the Deal Discount in the next step.
Each Deal Condition should have a Deal Condition Name for Back Office identification purposes.
For the "Spend X on Y" condition:
- Use Item Selection Method to select items for this condition based on "Product Family" or "Individual Product", and then select that family or product in the Item Selection list.
- Recommendation: Ensure that the product(s) issued as the Promo Product in the next condition are not included in the item selection for this condition, either by omitting them from the original Item Selection or by utilising the Item Selection Exceptions feature against the condition.
- Select your Condition Metric, which is typically "Amount" for this condition in a promotional product scenario to identify a minimum amount spent.
- Enter a Minimum value to specify the minimum spend on the selected items required. For minimum spend requirements, the Maximum value can typically be left blank as the discount is trigged on a minimum threshold only.
For the "Promo Product" condition:
- Use Item Selection Method to select items for this condition based on "Product Family" or "Individual Product", and then select that family or product in the Item Selection list.
- Select your Condition Metric, which is typically "quantity" for this condition in a promotional product scenario to check that the promotional product exists in the basket.
- End a Minimum value and Maximum value to specify the quantity of products that are discounted when the minimum spend condition is met.
Deal Discounts
There is one Deal Discount.
Enter the Menu Discount Name as the deal should be shown to customers.
Select the Discount Type as either:
- "Fixed Price", with a Value of 0.00 representing the new free price.
- "Percentage", with a Value of 100 to reduce the original price by 100%
