Introduction
This article provides examples transactions level discounts.
A transaction discount may be unconditional, such as a 10% Discount activated by the customer entering a promo code regardless of the contents of the basket.
Or, a transaction discount may be conditional, where a transaction discount is applied only when a minimum spend or minimum purchase quantity threshold has been met. For example:
- In an F&B scenario, 10% off your bill when spending over £100.00.
- In a Retail scenario, 5% off your basket when purchasing 12 or more eligible items.

IMPORTANT: Before creating a deal, check that you have the following:
- A "Deal Reporting Product". A product representing the deal that discounted items report against within the transaction. This is a standard Back Office Product with the Deal Reporting Product checkbox enabled in the Additional Options section.
- Product families (if required). A family of products used to specify basket conditions for the deal to activate, or used to specify products that should be excluded from transaction-level discounts. These are managed within the Product Families section.
Deal Configuration Steps: Unconditional
Step 1: Deal Details
When creating the deal:
- Enter a Deal Name for the the deal as it should be known in the Back Office (customers don't see this) and link to a Deal Type. Then select the Deal Reporting Product for the deal to report against in transactions.
- The Discount Level should be "Entire Transaction".
- Select when the deal is Available From and To. You can apply additional availability rules later.
Once created there are two further options:
- Discounted Items Contribute To Condition: This is not applicable for this type of deal, where there are no Deal Conditions.
- Allow Stacking: Enable this if items discounted by this deal can be further discounted by another transaction-level deal that gets applied later. (Typically disabled for this type of deal.)
Not Required: Deal Conditions
There are no Deal Conditions required for unconditional transaction discounts.
Step 2: Deal Discounts
There is one Deal Discount.
Enter the Menu Discount Name as the deal should be shown to customers.
Select the Discount Type as "Percentage" or "Amount", along with the Value of that percentage or amount to be discounted. The Tax Option will populate automatically based on your location.
If discount should be capped, enter the Discount Limit to specify the maximum value of discount allowed.
If products are excluded from the discount calculation, select to Exclude Products and select the product family that contains the products that should be excluded.
Deal Configuration Steps: Conditional
Step 1: Deal Details
When creating the deal:
- Enter a Deal Name for the the deal as it should be known in the Back Office (customers don't see this) and link to a Deal Type. Then select the Deal Reporting Product for the deal to report against in transactions.
- The Discount Level should be "Entire Transaction".
- Select when the deal is Available From and To. You can apply additional availability rules later.
Once created there are two further options:
- Discounted Items Contribute To Condition: Enable this if sales of items already discounted by item-level deals contributes towards the sale condition of this transaction-level discount. For example, if the Combo Deal scenario covered previously in this article has been applied, the fixed price sale value of that combo still contributes towards a minimum spend requirement of 100.00 for this transaction discount to be applicable.
- Allow Stacking: Enable this if items discounted by this deal can be further discounted by another transaction-level deal that gets applied later.
Step 2: Deal Conditions
There is typically a single Deal Condition representing the minimum basket requirements.
The Deal Condition should have a Deal Condition Name for Back Office identification purposes.
Use Item Selection Method to select items for this condition based on "Product Family" or "Individual Product", and then select that family or product in the Item Selection list.
Select your Condition Metric to specify a minimum "Amount" spend, or minimum "Quantity" sold requirement. Then enter your Minimum requirement value.
For conditional transaction-level discounts, the Maximum value can typically be left blank as the discount is trigged on a minimum spend requirement.
Step 3: Deal Discounts
There is one Deal Discount.
Enter the Menu Discount Name as the deal should be shown to customers.
Select the Discount Type as "Percentage" or "Amount", along with the Value of that percentage or amount to be discounted. The Tax Option will populate automatically based on your location.
If discount should be capped, enter the Discount Limit to specify the maximum value of discount allowed.
If products are excluded from the discount calculation, select to Exclude Products and select the product family that contains the products that should be excluded.
