About
A safe count compares the cash you count in an account with the account's balance in Cinchio Back Office, so you can spot and investigate differences quickly.
Safe counts are also how cashier counts are recorded.
For reference only
A safe count never changes the account's balance, whatever you count.
Set up accounts first
Safe counts only work on accounts set up for them. In site account setup, for any Cash or Control account, turn on Include In Safe Counts and choose a count template.
How a safe count moves on
Pending
Created, and can still be changed.
Counted
Count entered, and any variance shown.
Approved
Approved, and any variance accepted.
Completed
The period it falls in is complete. Only if you use periods.
Reporting

Go to the Enter tab.
Enter
Count the cash in an account, check the variance, then approve the count.
Steps
1
Start a new safe count
Go to Revenue Management > Safe Counts and select NEW SAFE COUNT.
2
Choose the account
On the New Safe Count page, choose:
The site account you're counting.
The count template to use.
Then select SAVE.
3
Enter the counts
Enter the count for each denomination in the Count Value column. If a denomination is counted by quantity, enter the number of notes or coins instead of their value. Check the total, then select COUNTED.
4
Check the variance
The safe count is now Counted, and shows how the count compares with the account's balance.
5
Approve, or save for later
Choose what to do next:
APPROVE
Accept any variance and approve the safe count.
SAVE
Keep it in Counted, and approve it later.
The safe count is recorded.
Does the balance look wrong?
Approving a safe count doesn't change the account's balance. If the variance shows the balance is wrong, update the account balance.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
QHow do I change the layout of a safe count?
A safe count's layout comes from the cash count template assigned to the site account. The template sets:
- Which denominations can be counted
- Their order
- Whether each is counted by value or quantity
You can edit the template for future counts. Past safe counts aren't affected.
Templates for each account
Each site has its own cash count templates, and often several, because other features use them too. Set a default template for each site account used for safe counts. See default count templates.
