Item variations are created when a parent product is linked to size and, where required, style templates. This keeps the menu simple while still allowing different sellable variations at POS.
When to use variations
- Use variations when the same base item has multiple sizes, such as glass and bottle or small, medium, and large.
- Use style templates when variations also need attributes such as colour, pattern, or another descriptive option.
- Use Product Matrix for size-based child products.
- Use Recipe Sub-Products where each size needs its own recipe composition.
Set up variations
- Create the size template in Configuration > Size Templates.
- Create the style template in Configuration > Style Templates if styles are needed.
- Create or open the parent product.
- Open the Product Matrix tab and enable Template mode.
- Select the size template first.
- Select the style template if required.
- Generate and review the variation products.
Review generated items
- Check Code, Name, POS Name, Sellable status, and prices for each generated variation.
- Review category, family, and menu requirements.
- Add the parent key to the menu if operators should choose the variation after selecting the key.
- Add selected child products directly only where not every variation should be available.
Checks before saving
- Generated variation products may not all appear in the main product list; review them from the parent product Product Matrix tab.
